Lucifer Today: Blotter Artist, Printer and Perforator

Lucifer is one of the few blotter artists who makes his sheets from start to finish. He designs them, prints them and perforates them himself, and he does the same for other artists.

Six presses and Monkey’s machines

Lucifer now owns six printing presses. Two of them belonged to Paul Guest, known as Monkey (1962–2021), the British printer who produced work for many of the best-known blotter artists and who taught Lucifer the trade. After Monkey’s death, his machines and part of his stock were bought back so that his work could continue.

The two presses did not arrive ready to use. Parts were missing, and getting them to run as they should took time. It was with the help of Ed Visser, the Dutch master printer, that Lucifer finally got them working properly again.

Learning the 1990s way in Amsterdam

Ed Visser is a pioneer of blotter in the wider sense, not only blotter art. He created most of the original Dutch sheets of the 1980s and 1990s, and he is the author of the original Bike Ride 43 sheet from 1993. Lucifer regularly takes part in workshops in Amsterdam with Ed and Erwan of Amsterdam Blotter Classics, where Ed teaches him automatic perforation and screen printing, the way sheets were made in the 1990s. Most blotter art today is printed in offset, so this is a rare chance to keep the older techniques alive.

Two shops, two roles

Acidlucifer.com is reserved for Lucifer’s own work. It is where his own designs are sold, such as Yan’s of Yin.

Blotterart.uk is broader. It sells sheets from the stock that came with Paul Guest’s machines, Lucifer’s own editions, and the work of the new artists he produces. It is also where he takes custom printing orders from artists, bands and collectors who want their own sheets made.

Blotterart.uk also holds a piece of his history: the first edition of Cosmic Turtles, his first signed sheet, signed and marked with a Chinese stone seal.

Still releasing new work

Lucifer’s 2026 releases include Yan’s of Yin, Vajra Canvas for Bicycle Day, Paimon v2, Lightning Strikes and Touchscreen Spirituality. He also works with other artists: two signed mandala sheets with Rick Sinnett, the artist whose designs inspired him most when he started, and several sheets with Luke Brown.
